The Forgotten Eastern Europe

Here's a great travel piece from the Spectator by John Laughland on the little known Eastern European country Ladronia . I was there myself in the mid 1990s, when the country was a 'pariah' state merely for voting in the wrong government. Now that the West has got his way in last year's 'velcro revolution', we can expect the usual pattern: privatisation, NATO air bases and impoverishment for the many. But politics apart, it's still a great place to visit.

A fascinating country - one that I have not visited for about 25 years. Lord, your average hand shandyist for war was just a tadpole swimming around in his father's bollocks in those days.

Laughland's article encouraged me to post my own memories of the place.

Have you ever visited Ladronia?

Yup, I was there in the mid 90s. at the time when Francis Wheen and The Mumbo Jumbo crowd were talking about Ladronia's campaign of 'genocide' and their dastardly plans for a 'Greater Ladronia. Funny how they've gone all silent on that now. Could be something to do with the lack of bodies.....
Still, the US is happy, they've got their airbase and Tony and Cherie have got another freebie holiday destination.
