Fasten your seat belts......

Last summer in the Daily Express I wrote:

"We've had plenty of false alarms before, not least when the 9/11 attacks threatened to cause major economic meltdown, but this time the danger signs are unmistakable. While the world is not yet engaged in a tariff war, as it was in the Twenties and the US and UK stock markets recovered some ground yesterday, the other three causes of the Great Depression are all present. To paraphrase Bette Davis in the classic film All About Eve (above), buckle your seat-belts-this one could be a bumpy ride."

After the events of the last 24 hours, does anyone think otherwise?

No. We are facing a massive global crisis as the result of neoliberalism. The worst is yet to come.

Devoid of the culture that might have acted as a bulwark to times of hardship there is nothing.

What I have predicted will happen. Total nihilism, violence and a return to the 1930s in some wats.

This time it will be different. Nazism won't happen again. But more random violence by psychopaths macihne gunning people down in shopping malls.

Read Ballard. He saw the near future. Now the economic crash is under way, the false life many have been living will come out through violence.

It could have been avoided. As a result of neoliberalism , it won't.

The task of sensible statemanship must be to understand and defeat the recurrent and batural evil to which human nature is prone to.

Socialists can seldon understand that because they believe human nature is good.

It isn't. Humans are naturally evil and that is why I am a Tory.

Can that be reconciled with Neil's Socialist views ?

All progressive conceptions of politics are futile fictions. For me Iraq is proof of that.
